Restless days, endless nights

Here I am at 3:30 in the morning. Like many I am unable to sleep because my thoughts won’t rest. So much to do and think about….. Restless days and endless nights seem to have become the norm.

Every caregiver can attest to this. You learn to sleep in hospital  cots, recliners, sofas and yes sometimes the floor just to be near your loved one. You do this to show love, support and commitment. Which is not always easy to do.  It is not uncommon for caregivers to feel a sense of being out of control. Doubt, fear and helplessness take over.

It is not until we reach out for information and reassurance that we learn we are not alone, bringing a glimpse of encouragement that we can manage and control most of the events that surround us. Taking care of yourselves as caregivers is just as important as taking care of your loved one. They go hand in hand.

I sound like I am rambling, but after all it is 3:30 in the morning.
